Recording: We recommend that you use the highest quality microphone and microphone preamp possible when recording your tracks. It will make a significant difference in the overall sound when using a microphone built specifically for professional studio recording when capturing vocals and instrumentation. Higher quality preamps also make a difference in the quality and sound of your recordings.

It is also important to monitor the tracks while recording and review them in order to make sure they did not clip or distort. There is NO process to fix distorted tracks once they are recorded other than re-recording them. If there are any RED lights blinking (clip) on any device while you are recording, there is usually some distortion on the track. In some cases this sound is a desirable effect.

Individual Tracks vs Grouping or Submixing: It is very important to send all of the tracks individually, with no effects (dry). Even if there is a beat or rhythm, not having the individual tracks can prevent us from mixing the track properly. It is best to send the mixed track with effects, as well as the dry individual tracks with the effects printed on separate individual tracks. This allows us to hear your vision of what you had intended when laying down the track, but also gives us the option to mix the track more completely if necessary. Layered Keyboard and guitar sounds should also be sent on separate tracks.

The same applies for midi instrumentation. If the midi files are sent along with the printed audio files, we can add to the sound of the track using your midi track and our samples if it is needed.

It is also important to send vocal tracks dry. The original tracks should also be included when autotune software is being used. Both the non effected and effected tracks should be included if at all possible. This gives us the most flexibility when mixing the project.

Delivering Files: We are compatible with Pro Tools, OMF2, aiff or wave file formats plus many others. These files are supported by Cubase, Sonar, Logic, Digital Performer, Reason & Nuendo. There are 3 options of delivering your files to us.

1. ProTools 7.4 or below
a. ProTools Session File
b. Audio Files Folder

2. OMF – Exports all of the Audio tracks with the file – can use for Avid, Final Cut Pro, Nuendo Cubase, Digital Performer, Apple Logic and Sonar
a. On any of the above programs, export project as OMF2
b. OMF files do not contain information on plug-ins or midi files

3. Audio Tracks – From any DAW or program export or bounce the files to 16, 24 bit wave or aiff files.
a. Make sure the start times of all of the tracks matches the start time of the project and that all tracks have the same start time. This can be done by consolidating the tracks from the start to the end.

4. Reason Users – It is not necessary to bounce or export the individual Reason tracks. You can send the Reason session file, which we will launch to get the individual tracks.

You may choose to upload the requested files using our ftp access, email or snail mail us a Data CD-R or DVD of the files.
